FAQs

Where are Good Dearest Unhappy fragrances made?

Our fragrances are made by hand in our tiny studio in Los Angeles, California.

Who composes your fragrances?

Our scents were developed by our in-house perfumer and founder, Mina Joseph.

What are your fragrances made of?

Good Dearest Unhappy fragrances are composed with only the highest quality aromatic materials, organic sugarcane alcohol, and pure water. We use both natural and synthetic aroma molecules, and we always prioritize safety, quality, and sustainability when sourcing materials. Our formulas are IFRA-compliant and never contain animal-derived ingredients, nitromusks, polycyclic musks, or endocrine disruptors. If you have any questions about a specific ingredient or our formulations, just ask! We aim to be as transparent as possible.

Do you test on animals?

No—never have and never will! We are proudly cruelty-free.

Are your fragrances safe?

Yes! We formulate all of our fragrances in accordance with IFRA (International Fragrance Association) guidelines and steer clear of nitromusks, endocrine disruptors, and materials not approved by IFRA. If you have allergy concerns, feel free to ask us a question and consult your physician.

Our fragrances never contain parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, formaldehyde, or dyes of any kind, but fun fact—most modern perfumes don’t include those either!

What is the shelf life of Good Dearest Unhappy fragrance?

Perfume, when properly stored, can last many, many years. Our fragrances are no exception. Store your fragrances in a cool, dry place away from temperature fluctuations and humidity (so not on the bathroom counter…sorry!) for best results.

Do you offer returns?

We do not offer returns. We strongly encourage you to purchase a discovery set before a full bottle! Perfumes wear and smell differently on all of us—that’s part of the magic.

How long before my order arrives?

Each Good Dearest Unhappy fragrance is made-to-order. Our team is very small, so we ask for your patience! Your order will ship in 5-7 business days in most cases, though delays are possible. If you are concerned about your order, please contact us.

What’s up with the name?

Our name comes from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The Monster says, “I distinguished several other words without being able as yet to understand or apply them, such as good, dearest, unhappy.” You can read more about our inspiration in the Our Story section.
