FAQs

Where are Good Dearest Unhappy fragrances made?

Our fragrances are made by hand in our Los Angeles studio.

Who composes your fragrances?

Our scents were developed by our in-house perfumer and founder, Mina Joseph.

What are your fragrances made of?

Good Dearest Unhappy fragrances are composed with only the highest quality aromatic materials, organic sugarcane alcohol, and pure water. We use both natural and synthetic aroma molecules, and we always prioritize safety, quality, and sustainability when sourcing materials. Our formulas are IFRA-compliant and never contain nitromusks or polycyclic musks. If you have any questions about a specific ingredient or our formulations, just ask! We aim to be as transparent as possible.

Do you test on animals?

No—never have and never will! We are proudly cruelty-free.

What are your sustainability practices?

We take huge pride and responsibility in being a sustainable fragrance brand. All of our packaging is recyclable, made of recycled materials, or is completely biodegradable. We use r-PET (plastic made from 100% ocean-bound water bottles) in plastic components, FSC-certified papers for outer packaging and paper products, compostable tissue paper, and soy ink for printing…just to name a few! Each shipment is also carbon offset through TerraPass.

Are your fragrances safe?

Yes! We formulate all of our fragrances in accordance with IFRA (International Fragrance Association) guidelines and steer clear of materials not approved by IFRA. If you have allergy concerns, feel free to ask us a question.

Our fragrances never contain preservatives, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, formaldehyde, or dyes of any kind.

What is the shelf life of Good Dearest Unhappy fragrance?

Our fragrances, when properly stored, can last many, many years. Store your perfume in a cool, dry place (so, not on the bathroom counter…sorry!) for best results.

Why is my perfume a different color than the sample, photo, or in-store tester?

Our perfumes contain many natural materials that can cause variation in the color of the “juice" inside your bottle. Sometimes, a difference in color can be attributed to a specific harvest of a natural ingredient, which is pretty neat! In any case, variation in color is normal and does not impact the performance/freshness of the perfume.

Do you offer returns or exchanges?

We do not offer returns or exchanges at this time. We strongly encourage you purchase a Discovery Tin before a full bottle. Perfumes wear and smell differently on all of us—

that’s part of the magic.

How long before my order arrives?

Each Good Dearest Unhappy fragrance is made-to-order. Our team is very small, so we ask for your patience here! Your order will ship in 5-7 business days in most cases, though delays are possible. If you are concerned about your order, please contact us.

Do you gift wrap?

We do not offer gift wrapping service at this time, however, your package will arrive gift-ready with scented tissue paper, a personalized sticker, and a custom wax seal.

What’s up with the name?

Our name comes from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The Monster says, “I distinguished several other words without being able as yet to understand or apply them, such as good, dearest, unhappy.” You can read more about our inspiration in the Our Story section.
